The Shanghai Disney Resort is partnering local educational institutions to launch the ‘Shanghai Disney Resort Talent Class’.
The joint classes are designed to deepen the company’s talent pool by teaching Disney’s best practices in service excellence.
The news confirms Disney’s intention to fulfill over 98 percent of its staffing requirements locally.
Reports suggest that the Shanghai resort is planning to recruit 2,000 full-time and part-time employees in 2017. Opportunities will also be tailored to those with disabilities.
To kickstart the new initiative, Disney will be teaming up with 10 universities, colleges and vocational school. Among the first takers are Shanghai Polytechnic University, Shanghai Sanda University, and the Tourism College of Zhejiang.
In a news conference in Shanghai, Philippe Gas, General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said:
“The essential element in guest satisfaction is the interaction that our 10,000 staff members have with visitors.”
Students will have the chance to benefit from internships as animation designers, make-up artists, accountants and mechanical technicians. There will also opportunities for outstanding students to train at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Since Disney first set its sights on China it has dedicated significant resources to attracting and retaining local talent. The company also encourages Chinese students studying in the US to train with them locally and then bring their learning and experience back to China.
