Aardman Animations Ltd., the award-winning UK studio, is celebrating the official opening of Fabula, the new 4D film adventure at Efteling.

Aardman Animations is pleased to announce the opening of Fabula, a new 4D film adventure located at Efteling, the popular fairytale theme park in the south of Holland. This is the result of a collaboration between the park and the award-winning studio which produces much-loved shows such as Shaun the Sheep and Wallace & Grommit.

Fabula is a 3D film with a strong nature theme, shown in a 4D theatre with exciting 4D effects like water, wind and scent.

A grumpy young bear

The story follows a grumpy young bear as he goes on a journey to different habitats and learns how to get on with the other animals around him. It features lovable characters such as a curious squirrel and the wise Mr Sandman. The installation also includes a themed restaurant where guests can continue to enjoy the Fabula world.

The official opening took place on 7 December, when executives from Efteling and Aardman, as well as international press and family members, were treated to an exclusive viewing of the show and a presentation about its creation.

During the opening ceremony, Fons Jurgens, CEO at Efteling, said: “We are delighted with our newest attraction, which has been completed in just six weeks.

“Working with Aardman on the production of Fabula has allowed us to combine the latest in film and animation technology with a new hospitality-concept, meaning that the attraction is completely in tune with this time. From today, Efteling visitors can enjoy this indoor attraction 365 days of the year.”

The new attraction is already proving to be a hit with guests. Some of the initial comments included “heartwarming”, “beautiful image quality” and “we were included in the story”.

Fabula

Fabula includes a pre and a main show, which both last eight minutes. The nature-themed films take guests of all ages on a funny and exciting adventure as they get to know the bear who would not share and follow him as he learns some important life lessons.

There is also a restaurant and a play area where guests can play and eat in the theme of savanna, ocean and jungle. This is a renovation of the existing restaurant and souvenir shop to fit in with the theme. The investment for the development of Fabula cost €3.5 million.

Earlier this year, Aardman also announced a new concept for the theme park market, ‘A Fish Tale’, in partnership with P&P Projects, the attraction design and turnkey solution specialists.
