Alton Towers Resort has announced a groundbreaking new 4D ride experience, Gangsta Granny: The Ride, as part of The World of David Walliams – a new attraction based on his children’s books.

The ride is based on David Walliams‘ children’s novel, called Gangsta Granny, which follows Ben as he discovers that his Granny is a secret international jewel thief.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Gangsta Granny is becoming a ride at Alton Towers,” said Walliams. “I never imagined it would happen so it’s a real delight to see my characters brought to life in a ride.

“I’ve worked really closely with the team at Alton Towers to make sure the ride is just as funny and exciting as the book.

“I think children and their parents… and even their grandparents… are going to love it!”

Gangsta Granny riders will attempt to steal Crown Jewels

Gangsta Granny riders will join Ben and Granny as they attempt to steal the Crown Jewels, boarding a Royal Carriage as they embark on a tour of the royal ceremonial objects.

The ride will take visitors through a series of scenes where they see, feel, hear and smell in the sewers and streets of London.

It features state-of-the-art special effects, 3D projection-mapping and animation inspired by the artwork of Tony Ross.

The World of David Walliams will also feature more rides and attractions, including Raj’s Shop, the Royal Carousel, and Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp.

In addition, Alton Towers is adding four Gangsta Granny themed bedrooms to the Alton Towers Hotel, and has announced the new ‘Grannies Go Free’ pass for 2020.

“David’s stories are full of witty characters, intrigue and exhilaration so it’s been a fantastic challenge to build all that into a new ride experience,” said John Burton, creative lead for Alton Towers.

“It’s the first time we’ve attempted such a complex combination of a physical ride experience, high-tech special effects and brilliant storytelling to ensure guests feel they are with Granny and Ben on every step of their adventure.”

The World of David Walliams is scheduled to open in spring 2020.
