Drone Interactive, a specialist in drone-based attractions featuring augmented reality, has created a brand new kind of interactive multiplayer experience, Arcadrone.

Ideal for amusement parks and FECs, Arcadrone combines the experience of flying real drones with video gaming.

Depending on the gameplay offered, the drones interact with each other and the virtual components of the video game, such as background, bonuses or characters.

The Arcadrone prototype was first launched to an enthusiastic crowd at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It proved an immediate hit with industry players and the general public alike.

The company is poised to commence production, and aims to install the system in a French FEC by the end of the year.

Arcadrone taps into the growing demand for opportunities to fly drones and the revenue potential this offers to venues such as FECs and location-based attractions. Drones are generally perceived to be too expensive, too complicated, and even too dangerous to fly. What’s more, the regulations surrounding drone use in public spaces are becoming increasingly prohibitive.

Arcadrone – a high throughput, customisable solution

Arcadrone removes these obstacles and provides an accessible, safe and fun experience using immersive and interactive gaming technology.

According to Drone Interactive: “Flying drones is now a family-friendly activity that’s as easy as riding a bike. Arcadrone is a concentration of state-of-the-art technology. Anyone can fly the drones – from young children to their great-grandparents – and, thanks to augmented reality, the gaming experience can be totally adapted. The sky is the limit!”

Drone Interactive has designed the attraction as a turnkey solution that easily integrates into virtually any park or FEC location. The design can be adapted to suit any theming or IP and provides a new way for operators to refresh or diversify their offer.

The intense, three- to five-minute games ensure high throughput. It’s also a great spectator game that draws a crowd, encouraging onlookers to have a go themselves.

“Arcadrone is particularly easy to install and use as it requires no dedicated operating staff, minimising operating costs and maximizing revenue,” says the company.

Drone Interactive is currently working on several potential projects with major players in the FEC and amusement park industry in France and abroad. The company will be showcasing its system at the IAAPA Euro Attractions Show in Amsterdam from September 25 to 27, 2018.
