Imagineear multimedia tour brings Barcelona's art nouveau buildings to life

Leading creator of multimedia content and apps for cultural, leisure and sport attractions, Imagineear, has created a multimedia tour for the former Hospital de la Santa Creui Sant Pau in Barcelona.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses a range of spectacular art nouveau buildings of artistic and historic importance.

Imagineear’s tour engages visitors with the site’s history and helps them understand its unique architecture.

The fully scripted tour is available in English, French, Spanish and Catalan.

The Hospital de la Santa Creui Sant Pau in Barcelona was purpose-built as a hospital complex. Its distinctive series of art nouveau buildings range in date from 1902 up to 1930.

Barcelona tour rich in immersive content

Although the existing buildings are 20th century, the hospital’s origins go back much further to 1401. It was originally established when six small mediaeval hospitals in the Raval area, the old town next to La Rambla, were merged. The hospital moved to the new site in 1916 and continued to function until 2009, when it was closed for restoration. It reopened as a museum and cultural centre in 2014.

“Every building has its own self-contained history that provides a wealth of rich and immersive content for Imagineear to include in the tour creation,” explains Vasileios Karageorgos, Imagineear’s Design Director.

“The 20th Century Modernista design for the hospital was as much a social project for patients’ holistic wellbeing as it was functional. The art and architecture include spectacular ceramics, and beauty and light were incorporated as givens.

“Our tour weaves in and out of these extraordinary buildings, into the outdoor space and even the tunnels in between, built to keep patients dry during transfers. Our MPti™ device screens perform exceptionally well in these circumstances, where visitors move from interiors into the clear Mediterranean sunlight.”

Imagineear has transformed visitor engagement across a whole range of attractions worldwide including the Van Gogh Museum, Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium, London’s Tower Bridge and the British Museum.
