Barco, the global technology company, has announced a new 1000+ unit deal with Cineworld and Cinionic, to provide its laser projectors to theatres worldwide.

Barco is pleased to announce that Cineworld has commenced a global renewal with Cinionic, the Barco cinema joint project. As part of the deal, Barco’s award-winning technology will be rolled out to theatres across the world.

This is a significant expansion of Cinionic’s ongoing relationship with Cineworld Group plc. Cinionic will roll out Barco’s services and products to Cineworld venues in the US, EU and UK, including the new Barco Series 4.

Delivering a new visual standard

Cineworld now plans to upgrade and distribute more than 1,000 projectors globally, using Barco’s laser solutions to deliver high-quality visuals. The projectors will also be supported by Barco Alchemy media servers. Thanks to Cinionic’s enhanced services, they will be maintained for the next decade.

Barco’s innovative Series 4 platform was developed together with global exhibitors, including Cineworld. The group selected it as a key element of its plan to power new-build theatres, for its refresh and renewal strategy around the globe.

Cineworld Group manages over 9500 screens and operates across 10 countries. The company is regarded as a leader in the cinema industry and is responsible for chains such as Cineworld in the UK, Cinema City in Europe and Regal in the United States. By using Cinionic’s and Barco’s award-winning solutions, Cineworld is able to enhance its global footprint and cement its place as the ‘best place to watch a movie’.

Enhancing the movie-going experience

“Today, exhibitors are looking at ways to enhance the movie-going experience with the best images and unparalleled efficiency through laser projection and advanced service solutions. Cineworld is a longstanding partner and we are honoured that they are choosing Cinionic and Barco to power the visual standard for moviegoers today and tomorrow,” says Wim Buyens, CEO of Cinionic. “Following a successful collaboration over the last years, including the 2018 deal to renew 600 movie screens with Barco laser projectors. Building on our strong foundations, we are extending our relationship to bring innovation and services that further Cineworld’s mission around the world for years to come.”

The rollout includes the new Barco Series 4 platform, which was unveiled at CinemaCon 2019. It utilises high-dynamic-range (HDR) and onboard Barco Colorgenic to deliver wide-colour-gamut capabilities. The Barco Series 4 provides the highest-quality visual cinema experience for the modern-day, as well as being future-proofed for tomorrow. The technology leverages 4K, RGB-laser, and is ready for 4K 120fps high frame rate. It also ensures an energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly platform, through Barco EcoPure.

“For a long time, we have enjoyed a great partnership with Cinionic and Barco. Their dedication to research and development, as well as their great product support, is the essence of going further with this exciting deal”, said Renana Teperberg, Chief Commercial Officer of Cineworld. “The core of our strategy is the cinema experience, and superior projection is fundamental to a quality experience. We believe in laser projectors, especially the new Barco Series 4, and do not doubt that this deal will support Cineworld’s promise to its customers to provide the best place to watch a movie”.

Barco recently announced a number of new products, including a lightweight laser projector and a new range of LED tiles.
