Circus Roncalli in Germany is using holograms instead of live animal performers, in a bid to preserve the traditional circus experience amid concerns over animal cruelty.
The attraction, founded in Germany in 1976, started phasing out animal performances in the 1990s. Since 2018, Circus Roncalli has featured no live animals, only holographic projections with 360° visibility for the entire audience.
Roncalli’s agency TAG/TRAUM in cooperation with Bluebox chose Optoma as the best solution for the project and installed 11 laser projectors for a new holographic experience.
Birger Wunderlich at Bluebox said: “We have been using Optoma projectors for six years and have consistently had a very positive experience in price, performance, and reliability.”
Goldfish, elephants and horses at Circus Roncalli
Visitors can now enjoy a modern, entertaining twist on the circus experience. Roncalli features holographic acts including horses galloping around the arena, elephants doing headstands, and an enormous goldfish hovering in the middle of the ring.
In an interview, moderator Katja Burkard said: “I find the hologram very contemporary – especially the fact that there are no animals involved is very good.”
As technology becomes increasingly integral in creating unique and memorable visitor experiences, Blooloop has predicted six attraction tech trends as ones to watch in 2019.
