Disney has released a new image of the Marvel-themed area coming to Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris and details of other Marvel attractions across their portfolio of parks.

At Disneyland Paris, Rock N Rollercoaster will be reimagined as a high-speed, hyper-kinetic adventure.

The developments are part of a €2bn expansion which was announced in February, which includes renovating existing areas for Marvel and expanding the park to add Frozen and Star Wars areas.

The development will be a multi-year, multi-phase project. Construction work will start during 2019, with phases rolling out from 2021. A target completion date is set in 2025.

Also in Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Hotel New York will become Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel in 2020. It will be the first Disney hotel to showcase and celebrate the history of Marvel.

Disney has also posted a story offering backdrop to the story universe that the Marvel attractions will sit within.

In a blog post, Disney said: “The Stark Expo in Hong Kong was to be a first step: A world exposition whose theme of ‘A Better Tomorrow Today,’ was meant to inspire and motivate through technological innovation.”

But, it explains, after the Expo was attacked by Hydra the Avengers set up new Headquarters around the globe to attract new recruits: “In California and Paris, Tony Stark is retrofitting two of his father’s Stark Industries sites into new hubs for training and innovation.”

At Hong Kong Disneyland, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle! will debut at the theme park in 2019. It follows the successful openings of Iron Man Experience in Hong Kong, and Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT in California.

Few details of the Marvel area at California have been confirmed. It will be anchored by Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout.

Details of specific rides have not been disclosed but they will be based on Spider-Man and characters from the Avengers franchise. The first new attraction is expected to open in 2020 with others to follow.

However, the area may not be named for Marvel, the publisher behind the franchises, due to a contractual rights issue.
