Scandinavia’s leading summer amusement park is investing over €5 million in a new ride for 2019 from Intamin. Tigeren at Djurs Sommerland will be one of Europe’s tallest, and Denmark’s biggest, Gyro Swing.
Set to launch next May, the swinging pendulum ride will whisk guests up to 45 metres up in the air as they spin on a giant 40-passenger gondola. During a 2-minute experience passengers will encounter forces of more than 4.5G. The ride will reach a top speed of 100km/h, making it the fastest and also the tallest ride in the park.
A Gyro Swing of the same height, Loke, has been thrilling guests at Liseberg in Sweden since last season. Tigeren’s capacity is expected to be around 900 per hour and the minimum rider height will be 1.25m.
Wild Asia, wild ‘n’ mild rides
The new attraction will be located in the Wild Asia section of Djurs Sommerland, hence the animal theme. This area of the park is already home to the Intamin family suspended coaster DrageKongen. This spring, two custom-themed family rides were added. Jungle Rally is a cute family coaster from Zierer, whilst Safaribussen is a Crazy Bus by Zamperla. Both are pictured below.
The Leisure Expert Group, which previously worked on concept development for all the above in addition to Djurs’ Bondegårdsland area, its Soulken ride, Pirate’s Food Market (2017) and Halloween events, is also helping to design the Tigeren experience.
Located about an hour north of Aarhus, Djurs Sommerland hosted a record 808,000 visits in 2017. The park already boasts several other Intamin attractions. In addition to Dragekongen these include the Piraten Mega-Lite coaster and a double launch quad bike coaster called Juvelen. Tigeren wil be its 30th new ride since the introduction of Piraten in 2008. During that time the family-owned park has invested more than €68 million.
