The company behind free GPS-activated walking trail app and platform, Geotourist, has partnered with GlenWyvis Distillery to create a new tour of Dingwall.
The initiative reflects both companies’ commitment to the Scottish tourism industry.
As the world’s first 100% community-owned and crowd-funded distillery, GlenWyvis is heavily invested in Dingwall and the local region, and keen to give something back. Geotourist is Patron of the STA and sponsors of VisitScotland’s Innovation in Tourism Thistle Award.
Narrated by members of the GlenWyvis team, the trail tells the story of Dingwall’s distilling heritage, explaining the key role that the local area has played in Scotland’s whisky history.
“Here at GlenWyvis we are all about innovation,” explained Michael Fraser, Marketing and Tourism Strategy Officer at GlenWyvis Distillery. “From crowd-funding the distillery to being 100% powered by renewables – we are always looking for smart new solutions. The same goes with our marketing – which is why we are delighted with this new partnership with Geotourist.”
Encouraging visitors to explore beyond the main road
Visitors are guided through the main street of Dingwall as the narrative weaves local points of interest with tales of the town’s distilling legacy. The tour finishes with the latest news from GlenWyvis.
Downloadable via the Apple or Android app store, the trail encourages visitors using the highly successful NC500 route to take a break from the main road. By offering a more immersive experience, it is hoped they will be persuaded to uncover Dingwall’s vibrant community, learn about its past and spend their money locally. The tour can also be enjoyed as a standalone narrative for those unable to visit Dingwall itself.
“We are thrilled to be working with the team behind GlenWyvis and think that what they have achieved is incredible,” commented Shaon Talukder, CEO, of Geotourist. “There are always new opportunities to present your local community to visitors. The Geotourist brand is global which means that people all over the world will see the GlenWyvis tour sitting alongside tours in the US, Australia and beyond.”
