GSM Project, the experience and exhibition designer, has announced the opening of a new pavilion at the Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai. The new museum exhibition is part of the first phase of the Dubai Historic District project on the Dubai Creek.
The Perfume House pavilion used to be the home of Sheikha Shaikha Bint Saeed Al Maktoum. She was a renowned perfumer as well as the aunt of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, current Ruler of Dubai. The heritage building holds a large and interesting collection, with items from her personal life alongside historical artefacts including a 3,000-year-old local incense burner.
GSM Project puts fragrance at the heart of the experience
The exhibition illustrates the social meaning of perfumes and fragrances within Emirati society. These traditions are unique to this part of the world. A visit to this museum showcases these practices through different displays including multimedia installations and a range of objects, as well as fragrances.
GSM Project worked to bring a unique experience of perfume to the visitor, beginning with the public world of fragrances such as the history, trade and ingredients. The exhibition also looks at the personal, private world of perfume, including the traditions and personal significances and rituals of different fragrances. Visitors will enjoy an immersive experience which includes personal stories, memories and recipes, as well as poetry and art. They also have the opportunity to create their own personal fragrance.

The Dubai Historic District project is renovating the historical neighbourhood of Shindagha. The development covers 1,5 square kilometres and will include new museums, forts, restaurants and open-air spaces set against Dubai Creek. Several exhibitions and features will showcase traditional Emirati culture.
GSM Project was also behind another new exhibition at the Al Shindagha Museum. The installation is entitled ‘Dubai Creek: Birth of a City’ and it introduces visitors to Dubai through the history of the river.
