Voiles en Voiles adventure attraction in Montreal is a key component in a challenging charity race, the Leucan Journey, created to raise awareness of Leukemia.
Powered by the Kanopeo Saferoller® belay system, Voiles en Voiles is themed on a pirate ship and features ten aerial courses and over 100 games. The attraction’s association with the Leucan Journey began in 2016.
“The Leucan organisation approached us with a crazy idea: an amazing race around the Old Port of Montreal committed to help cancer-stricken children and their families,” explained Jeremy Pratz, Marketing Coordinator at Voiles en Voiles. “We quickly agreed and proposed a series of ideas for the Leucan Journey.”
Kanopeo Saferoller® ensures everyone can take part
An important element of the event is inclusivity. Thanks to the Kanopeo Saferoller® belay system, Leukemia sufferers and their families are able to get involved in the action.
“The continuous lifeline with Kanopeo’s Saferoller® enables each of our visitors to go beyond their limits and their fears in a safe but challenging environment,” notes Nicolas Gosselin, co-owner of Voiles en Voiles.
“It also enables kids with disabilities or serious illnesses, as it is the case with the kids from Leucan, to do a physical activity with their parents and siblings. Being socially involved is part of Voiles en Voiles culture. The Leucan foundation provides relief and support to families with a cancer-afflicted child. As a family-oriented attraction, it is a natural fit for us to help them in their mission.”
The Leucan Journey covers the whole of Old Port of Montreal and the activities are hosted by more than 8 companies based there. In 2017, 67 participants in eighteen teams took part, helping to raise $55,000 CAD.
Canadian Football’s Montreal Allouette fielded a team which was widely expected to win. In fact, they surprised everyone by finishing last! Team Bota Bota won the Journey and Coccinelle Combattante (Fighting Ladybug) raised the most money – $6156.75 CAD. The next Leucan Journey takes place in September.
