Merlin Entertainments is continuing to connect with its visitors despite its attractions being closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As part of the ‘Making Magic with Merlin’ initiative, the company is trying to bring some ‘Merlin Magic’ to families who have to remain at home.

At-home education

A new partnership with Twinkl allows Merlin Entertainments to share content from its SEA LIFE centres to children. Twinkl launched a Home Learning Hub with free daily lessons for three to 16-year-olds in the UK.

As part of this partnership, Merlin’s SEA LIFE attractions will provide unique teaching experiences. Behind-the-scenes videos of the attractions will feature information from the teams looking after the aquarium’s creatures.

The first Twinkl and SEA LIFE collaboration will be on 1 May and will show children what a penguin’s lunchtime is like. Penguin keepers at SEA LIFE London Aquarium will teach children all about these flippered creatures.

Under the sea backgrounds

Merlin Entertainments is also helping brighten everyone’s day by improving their video backgrounds. The Aquarist team at SEA LIFE London have created different video backgrounds that can be downloaded for free.

Featuring some of the most popular creatures at the aquarium, you can now pretend you’re swimming with a sand tiger shark or a jellyfish during your calls.

Alton Towers Together

And for those who are missing Merlin’s theme parks, a new social campaign called ‘Alton Towers Together‘ has been launched. New POV videos of Alton Tower’s popular roller coasters have been viewed over 250,000 times in just one week.

Now, Alton Towers is sharing behind-the-scenes content, learning resources and family activities to bring some theme park fun to people’s homes. The park has challenged people to take on the ‘Towers Challenge’ and build the park’s Towers out of household items.

A design your own hoodie competition received hundreds of designs. And a behind-the-scenes video of the new Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE area was recently released as part of this campaign. Visitors are being given the chance to name it and win a VIP Experience when Alton Towers reopens.

Meanwhile, Merlin has released its annual accounts which detail the impact of COVID-19 on its ability to trade as a going concern.
