metropolitan museum of art tops Tripadvisor Travellers Choice Awards for the third year running

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has beaten off stiff competition once again to top the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice® awards.

The museum is the first to occupy the No. 1 spot for three consecutive years.

TripAdvisor awards are based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings, gathered over a 12-month period.

“We’re incredibly honoured to receive this recognition from our visitors,” comments Daniel H. Weiss, President and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. “We care deeply about the experience our visitors have at the Museum, and strive every day to present our collection, exhibitions, and programmes in an exciting and engaging manner, and to provide amenities that make everyone feel at home here.”

Last year, The Met attracted 7 million visitors across its three locations: The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Cloisters, and The Met Breuer.

Popular initiatives include EmptyMet tours

The museum was quick to employ technology to engage users and offers its Audio Guide as a free web app for smartphones or as a rental player on site. The app features a range of itineraries in 10 languages as well as over 3,000 audio and video messages.

More than a dozen tours are offered each day in multiple languages. Furthermore, printed and downloadable maps and itineraries offer additional guidance through the galleries.

Other initiatives which have proved popular with visitors include EmptyMet tours, which gives access to The Met Fifth Avenue before it opens to the public.

To keep visitors in the loop, the museum has also developed a free app on iPhone, iPad, and Android which allows users to find art, exhibitions, and events at the Met’s three locations.

“Everyone should go to The Met at least once in their lifetime,” advises Brooke Ferencsik, Senior Director of Communications for TripAdvisor. “Travellers can take advantage of the insightful reviews and experiences available on TripAdvisor to enhance their visit.”
