World’s first Monopoly attraction coming to Hong Kong

Monopoly, one of the world’s most popular games, will come to life as a new attraction called Monopoly Dreams – the first property opening in Hong Kong.

The first Monopoly Dreams centre will opened in the third quarter of 2019 at The Peak Galleria, Hong Kong. The experience will utilise AR, hologram and 4D interactive technology. There will be interaction attractions based on elements of the game including the Bank, Water Supply, Jail, Title Deeds, Chance cards and Community Chest.

Monopoly is played by more than 1 billion people around the world. It dates back to 1965, dating back to a Chinese edition manufactured in Hong Kong called Choi Yuen Kwong Chun. The Monopoly Hong Kong edition was released in 2017.

Casey Collins, GM & SVP Entertainment & Licensing of Hasbro, Inc., said: “Our exciting partnership with Monopoly Dreams allows Hasbro to further extend the reach of Monopoly to location based entertainment sector and provide families and tourists with wonderfully memorable and highly immersive entertainment experiences by stepping into the first, fully immersive Monopoly-themed entertainment attraction.”

Gary Chan, Chief Operations Officer of Monopoly Dreams, said: “Having invested – a significant amount of resources to design and create MONOPOLY DREAMSTM, we highly treasure the establishment of this project. We target to accommodate over 700,000 visitors.  Not only we are dedicated to bringing immersive interactive experience for all generations of local Hong Kong, we are also endeavored to offer a new destination for tourists.”

Toy brands are hot property

In 2016, Hasbro announced a Monopoly Musical to show fans a new side of the classic game. And more recently, in 2018, Hasbro announced Nerf Experience, a new play experience themed to Hasbro’s Nerf brand. It will open on the ground level of Marina Square shopping centre, Singapore.

Earlier in the year, Hasbro acquired a number of properties from Saban Properties for $522m. These included the Power Rangers, My Pet Monster, Popples, Julius Jr, Luna Petunia and Treehouse Detectives.

Meanwhile competitor Mattel has licensed its Hot Wheels brand for two rides in India.
