Ocean Project, the largest network advancing ocean conservation around the world, has announced new updates ahead of World Oceans Day 2019. The event takes place on the 8th of June and will rally the world to stop ocean plastic.

World Oceans Day 2019 is designed to raise awareness of the issue of single-use plastic and the dangers it presents to the planet. World Oceans Day 2019 will look at personal awareness and help people to see what they can do to reduce their own plastic use. Organisers hope to mobilise large-scale action in order to make a real change.

Events will take place all over the globe, and organisers are being encouraged to include a variety of youth leadership opportunities into their plans. The 24-member World Oceans Day Youth Advisory Council wants to empower people of all ages to become active in their communities and to take action on the plastic issue.

Planning for World Oceans Day 2019

World Oceans Day 2019 is less than six weeks away. For organisations wanting to get involved, organisers have created WorldOceansDay.org. This is a central coordinating platform that helps to simplify event planning. It features ideas and inspiration for engaging and effective events, as well as resources such as posters, factsheets and youth resources. Those planning events can register, and add them to the world event map.

The World Oceans Day Youth Advisory Council has also prepared five new guides and toolkits. These are designed to help people take action on the issue of plastic pollution, not only on the day itself but throughout the year. They include resources on how to talk about ocean plastic pollution, action plans and clean-up guides and even upcycling tips.

The event will build on the success and momentum of World Oceans Day 2018. The Ocean Project has been championing the annual event since 2002, in partnership with several other organisations. The event is now recognised by the United Nations, with countries all over the world taking part each year.

The Ocean Project is a network of around 2000 members, including zoos, aquariums, education and conservation organisations. There are members in 80 countries all over the world.
