Sanrio is opening a Hello Kitty theme park in Vietnam in 2021, in partnership with local property firm BRG Group.
At a project launch in Hanoi on Sunday (May 19), Sanrio and BRG said they will build a 30,000 sqm indoor Sanrio Hello Kitty World Hanoi, adjacent to the capital’s West Lake.
BRG Group will construct and operate the park while paying Sanrio royalty fees for the use of characters, including Hello Kitty and other favourites like My Melody and Pompompurin.
The park will have gaming and rides, as well as a theatre, and dining and retail outlets.

“We want to provide experience-oriented programs such as transport safety and cooking to enhance creativity even among relatively older children,” said BRG President Nguyen Thi Nga.
Sanrio theme parks around the globe
Currently, Sanrio operates theme parks in Tokyo and Oita Prefecture in southwestern Japan. There are also Sanrio brand theme parks in South Korea and Malaysia.
Elsewhere, China’s State Council is supporting a RMB 11 billion ($1.6 billion) project by Hainan Province to build a Hello Kitty theme park.

Hainan Hello Kitty Paradise is not the first Hello Kitty theme park in China. Hello Kitty was announced as the star of a new indoor theme park in Shanghai last year. The Shimao Group licensed the popular children’s character from Sanrio.
