Shanghai Disneyland has officially reopened at Shanghai Disney Resort, welcoming guests back with safety precautions in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Shanghai Disneyland hosted a special reopening ceremony with cast members, guests and fans against a colourful Minnie Mouse-themed backdrop.
The event featured more than 30 Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Duffy and Friends, Disney Princesses, and characters from Marvel and Toy Story.
“Since the reopening of Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel in early March, we have been deeply moved by the encouragement from our guests and Disney fans,” said Joe Schott, president and general manager, Shanghai Disney Resort.

“Today’s celebrations will be remembered with joy, as we look forward to welcoming our guests back to this happy place.”
As guests entered the attraction, Disney characters made surprise appearances at the top of the entry portal, waving colourful banners to welcome visitors.
Cast members lined Mickey Avenue, greeting guests as they passed through the entry portal. Guests followed the park’s new and enhanced safety and health procedures.
F&B, merchandise, performances through spring 2020
Shanghai Disney Resort is offering a host of new performances, limited-time food and beverage offerings, and exciting merchandise throughout spring 2020.
The resort has been working with local government on the reopening plan for Shanghai Disneyland.
During the first phase of reopening, Shanghai Disney is following new measures and procedures, including opening with limited attendance and required advanced ticketing and reservations.
The attraction is also implementing social distancing in queues, restaurants, ride vehicles and other facilities, and has increased the frequency of cleaning and sanitisation.
Tickets for Shanghai Disneyland sold out within minutes when they went on sale in China on Friday (May 8), according to CNBC.
Elsewhere, Disney Springs is set to begin a phased reopening on May 20 at Walt Disney World Resort. The resort will remain closed, including theme parks and hotels.
