Japanese video game developer Square Enix is opening its first large-scale theme park with ninja attractions in 2020. As the name suggests, ‘Ninja Tower Tokyo’ will be located in Tokyo Tower.
Ninja Tower Tokyo will be Square Enix’s first large-scale theme park. It will be a new world featuring state-of-the-art ninja attractions.
Square Enix’s Live Interactive Works said the location is appropriate as Tokyo had a village of ninjas serving as guardians of the shogun’s mausoleum when the city was called Edo.
Live Interactive Works was established by Square Enix in order to create location-based entertainment attractions, such as theme parks, shopping malls and event spaces.
State-of-the-art ninja attractions in Tokyo
Although there are very few details about Ninja Tower Tokyo, Square Enix unveiled two of its first Live Interactive Works projects at this year’s Leisure Japan Theme Park Expo (via Kotaku).
The projects, called ‘Crystal Story’ and ‘Yokero’, are standalone experiences, but they may tease what guests can expect at Ninja Tower Tokyo.
In Crystal Story, an escape room-type attraction, players are armed with a lamp as they travel through an enclosed booth featuring glowing crystals and digital projections.
As for Yokero, players jump and dodge digital floor projections.
Square Enix creating location-based entertainment
Square Enix is behind games including Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest.
Previously, the Nijigen no Mori theme park in Japan announced a new Godzilla-themed area, complete with an enormous Godzilla model, opening in summer 2020.
‘Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji’ will boast the “world’s largest life-size Godzilla”, as well as a zip line, shooting game, gift shop, F&B, and its own backstory.
