Imagineear sheds new light on the Moomins and more at Tove Jansson retrospective

Imagineear, a leading expert in content creation for museums, has developed a multimedia guide for the UK’s first Tove Jansson retrospective.

Although Jansson is world-famous as the creator of the Moomins, her other works are little known outside her native Finland. This latest exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery aims to shine a light on her diverse achievements as a graphic illustrator, painter, cartoonist, novelist and satirist.

The exhibition presents her work in the context of her life and career and is the first time that many of the self-portraits and paintings have been seen in the UK. It showcases her passion for creating and exhibiting fine art works alongside her career in graphic illustration.

A rich seam of talent

“Visitors may be drawn to Dulwich by their interest in the Moomins, of which there is plentiful content plus supporting family activities and talks around the show, but they will come away with a memory of Tove Jansson’s wider abilities beyond the Moomin characters,” explains Iain George, Imagineear’s Project Director for UK & Ireland.

“This rich seam of talent is showcased in our multimedia guide which offers an added depth of interpretation to the exhibition.”

Specialists at Imagineear scripted, recorded and edited the guide using an actor to provide narration as well as engaging character cameos. The company also provided image research and film editing expertise.

The guide is hosted on Imagineear’s MPti devices with 5” touch screens. The same devices are used by visitors for the refreshed guide to the permanent collection, which has been updated by Imagineear.

Tove Jansson (1914-2001) runs at the Dulwich Picture Gallery until 28th January 2018.

The Dulwich Picture Gallery is the latest in a growing number of museums looking to engage guests more deeply with their exhibits. Imagineear employs the latest technologies in a range of solutions to meet those needs including 3D mapping, visual recognition and virtual and augmented reality.
