Universal Orlando is making a “major” announcement this week, with speculation swirling that it will be regarding a fourth theme park, potentially called Fantastic Worlds.
Universal Orlando said it would “reveal major news about the Universal Orlando Resort” at a press conference on August 1 at the Orange County Convention Center.
Although we don’t know what the announcement will reveal, the Convention Center is located near what’s thought to be the construction site for a new attraction.
Universal said the announcement will be about 20 minutes long, with a Q&A to follow it. Of course, it’s entirely possible that it will have nothing to do with a new theme park.
New Universal theme park to include Fantastic Beasts?
The company bought land back in 2015 and filed permits with the state of Florida saying it was preparing to start preparation work in April 2018.
Universal later filed site development plans, and rumours about a new theme park came about after Universal trademarked the name ‘Fantastic Worlds’ for use in amusement parks.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros filed two extensions on the ‘Time to Oppose for Good Cause’ regarding Universal’s trademark on the name ‘Fantastic Worlds’.
Universal Orlando’s fourth theme park is tipped to feature attractions based on Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon and possibly Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets.
Super Nintendo World could feature at Fantastic Worlds
It may also include another Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Super Nintendo World – for which scale model photos recently leaked online.
Super Nintendo World is scheduled to open in 2020 at Universal Studios Japan, with more Nintendo attractions planned for Florida and Hollywood.
Super Nintendo World will boast state-of-the-art rides and immersive attractions based on Nintendo characters and games. The highly-themed zone will also feature retail and dining.
