Vortex leading edge award Wave Coventry

Vortex Aquatic Structures International, the global water play provider, has won a World Waterpark Association Leading Edge Award for the second time, awarded for its work on The Wave Coventry.

Vortex Aquatic Structures International is proud to announce its second Leading Edge Award, which was given for its work on a new UK waterpark, The Wave Coventry. It was awarded by the World Waterpark Association (WWA) at its Annual Symposium and Trade Show, which took place last week at Disney’s Colorado Springs Resort.

The awards were created in 1992, in order to honour creativity in the development of new projects and services in the water attractions sector. It also recognises suppliers who have developed new products and concepts which benefit the industry as a whole.

The Wave Coventry

This year’s winners were selected by the WWA’s Board of Directors, who chose Vortex as part of a larger group who worked on The Wave Coventry. This new park will open in Coventry, UK, on 21 October 2019. It features three floors of cutting-edge attractions, including a wave pool, lazy river, slides and a toddler splash zone. Guests can also enjoy a spa and a health & fitness centre.

Vortex supplied projects for the waterpark’s lazy river and toddler splash zone. A number of other companies and organisations were recognised by the award, including The City Council of Coventry which owns the development, as well as FaulknerBrowns Architects, Neuman Aqua Ltd., Polin Waterparks, and Water Technology, Inc.

Vortex was responsible for designing an accessible and inclusive waterpark attraction that could be used by visitors of all ages and abilities. In order to meet the brief, the company designed a wheelchair accessible Elevations system and Splashpad, both of which were created especially to fit the existing space. Vortex turned to trusted partner Ustigate Waterplay to ensure the new attractions were installed successfully.

A one-of-a-kind waterpark

“The Wave Coventry is an unbelievable aquatic facility. The architects had a bold, unique vision, which provided numerous design opportunities that Vortex was excited to undertake,” says Virginie Guilbeault, Executive Vice President of Vortex Aquatic Structures International.

“The flexibility of our Elevations system allowed our team of creative designers to work with Neuman Aqua Ltd. and Water Technology, Inc. to create an interactive play experience that looks as though it grew out of the building structure itself. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind facility.”

“Winning industry awards is gratifying because it validates our approach to design and recognizes our water attractions as those that delight children and their families.”

Vortex also won a WWA Leading Edge Award in 2015, for its work on Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark. The company has also been recognised with several other awards in the past, including more than one International Design Award, Most Valuable Products Awards from Aquatics International, and a Best of Aquatics Supplier award.

Earlier this year, Vortex announced the appointment of Richard Martin as its new vice-president of product development.
