Walibi Belgium new roller coaster Tiki Waka

Walibi Belgium is set to launch a new family roller coaster and a 700sqm extension to its water park as the first attractions in its €100m ($112m) investment plan.

The roller coaster, which has been named Tiki-Waka, is 500m long and reaches heights of 20m. The five cars carry four passengers each and can reach speeds of 55kmph. It is located in the Exotic World area of park and is covered in lush vegetation.

The indoor water park, Aqualibi, has been extended by 700sqm to add in a new area dedicated to children who can’t yet swim. The whole water park has also been given a Caribbean theme. It will reopen to the public on 31 March 2018.

According to a Walibi statement, the cost of the additions was €12m ($15m) and they mark the first attractions from the €100m investment plan.

Park operator Compagnie des Alpes announced in June last year that Walibi Belgium was in line for a multi-year investment programme that would conclude in 2023. Projects still to come include:

  • 2019 – New theming for three areas of the park. New attractions include an interactive indoor family attraction, a children’s coaster and a large themed restaurant.
  • 2020 – Renewal of the park’s western zone, an interactive water attraction, plus “many other surprises”.
  • 2021 – A completely new area of the park opens, together with a new roller coaster. The zone will be themed around vampires and werewolves.

When announcing the plans last year, Jean-Christophe Parent, director general of Walibi Belgium, said: “Walibi has always played a pioneering role in offering its audiences new and unique sensations. This ambitious development plan will allow us to further establish our position as the largest and most sensational Belgian amusement park for visitors of all ages.”
