British Museum, London

The British Museum, founded in 1753, was the first national public museum in the world. Visitor numbers, around 5,000 a year in the 18th century, stand at nearly six million now.

Challenge
An audio descriptive guide was needed to help blind or partially sighted visitors was to be provided free of charge for visitors.

Solution
Previous success with this type of tour meant Imagineear was chosen to create a guide with detailed description of objects along with curators’ commentaries on our MediaPacker™ device. A raised dot on the numeric 5 key on player’s keypad is placed so that the visitor’s thumb is given an easy touch reference to help with orientation.

What We Are Proud Of
The specially designed tour provided on the MediaPacker™, with its well-spaced keypad, boxy design, clear screen and high contrast colour scheme, is well suited for this use.
