AI

AI is an abbreviation of Artificial Intelligence. Put simply, AI refers to intelligence demonstrated by machines, rather than that shown by animals, such as humans. It is used to describe machines, for instance robots, that are able to show that they can learn and problem solve, and who are capable of rational behaviour.

The field can encompass things like advanced web search engines and recommendation systems, digital voice assistants, programs that can play games like chess and Go, and self-driving cars.

In terms of attractions, AI has become a big trend in recent years, and robots are in use across the industry. For instance, Disney has been doing a lot of work in the field of robots, introducing an animatronic Spider-Man at Avengers Campus, and creating robotic actors that can move and act on their own as part of Project Kiwi.

Elsewhere, Gujarat Science City’s Robotic Gallery features robot servers and chefs, as well as performing robots and an area where visitors can take on a robot opponent in an air hockey game.

Meanwhile, Ai-Da is the world’s first ultra-realistic humanoid AI robot artist. Created to have advanced AI, she has a robotic arm system and facial recognition technology. Ai-Da also has a language model that allows her to speak and uses algorithms to be able to create art. She has exhibited at the United Nations, the Tate, London’s Design Museum and the V&A, and has written and performed poetry at Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum.

In 2021, the UK’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai used AI to write poems, which were then displayed on the building’s façade.
