Amusement Parks : Adding More Value at Gold Reef City Theme Park

Opinion

The Park continued to add value to the visitor experience during 2008, culminating in a great SUMMER BREAK promotion over the Holiday season in JOZI operating from early December until mid-January. The weather was typical to JHB: Hot days in the late 20s (Centigrade) and tremendous thunderstorms with torrential rain – fortunately at night, after the park has closed for the day.

We also extend our ride operating hours by one hour during the season (normally 09:30 to 17:00, extended from 09:30 to 18:00) and restaurants remain open until the sun goes down (around 19:00). This ensures our visitors have a full day in the park to experience all the attractions on offer over this holiday period. It would appear the economic slowdown meant that perhaps some holiday makers who normally would have travelled to the coast stayed at home this year, but the park was averaging between 5, 000-6, 000 visits per day so we were really hectic – but in a good way.

The Letter “H”

Visitors are greeted by our street entertainers in the morning and the numerous attractions include the rides, 4D theatre, numerous restaurants and of course the daily street parade. Our unique Park offers a unique blend of History through our tour of the Gold Mine on which JHB is founded, the Hysterical in terms of our over-range of rides and attractions, and not forgetting our Holiday circus featuring a twice-daily Family Circus in our very own big top "Hippodrome " venue, featuring artistes from all over the world and our very own Jo Z the Park’s resident clown character.

In addition to all of the above attractions, we opened a new food court for those who like good food but are “on the run, " and the relocated/refurbished Miner’s Revenge (Top Spin) ride (see below). When one of our visitors commented that it looks really old & rusty, we knew our abandoned-mine theming had worked. It did not deter the enthusiasts of this popular ride that combines a unique mix of aerial acrobatics and water thrills for the genuine adrenaline seekers.

A big THANK YOU to the GRC Team for their hard work in making the dreams come true for our visitors, and of course to the visitors themselves who braved the queues at the beginning of the day in the heat to relax and enjoy themselves in Southern Africa’s number one theme park.
