Eureka! Mersey is on track to open in 2022, with the £11.75m museum getting a £6.6m funding boost from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

According to North West Place, the Combined Authority is set to sign off the funding from its Single Investment Fund on Friday (July 26).

Eureka! Mersey will be located where Spaceport currently operates, in the Seacombe Ferry Terminal. It will consist of interactive exhibition space, a shop, and café.

Eureka! is working with Wirral Council and the Liverpool City Region CA on the project, which will be a combination of playful learning experiences and cutting-edge science, technology and innovation.

The new attraction expects to welcome approximately 187,000 visitors each year. There will be learning programmes, exhibitions, school and community workshops and after school activities.

On designing the main visitor attraction, Eureka! has been working with 6 to 14 year olds. The charity has also teamed up with schools and academia to explore the topics, activities and learning experiences that Eureka! Mersey could offer.

Last year, Eureka! Mersey received £3 million funding from the Inspiring Science Fund. Leigh-Anne Stradeski, Chief Executive of Eureka!, said she was “absolutely delighted”.

“This funding from the Inspiring Science scheme is a major step forward for our aspirations to create this world-class visitor attraction in partnership with Wirral Council, Merseytravel and the Liverpool City Region LEP,” she added.

“We are absolutely thrilled and it means we can now develop our plans further, working towards delivering a centre which reflects the context, spirit and ambitions of the area.”
