World of Wine (WOW), a new cultural and tourist district boasting six interactive museums and nine restaurants, has opened in the city of Porto in Portugal.
WOW, which recently welcomed visitors after five years of planning, features six interactive museums, as well as nine restaurants, bars and cafes.
Located on the south bank of the Duoro River, WOW also boasts open-air views of the the Dom LuÃs I Bridge and is one of the biggest tourism projects to launch in Europe in 2020.
At the museums, WOW showcases Porto’s wine, cork, fashion, textile and chocolate traditions with immersive exhibits and historical artefacts.

The Wine Experience is aimed at amateur and experienced wine enthusiasts, while Planet Cork explores Portugal as the world’s largest producer of cork.
Porto Region Across The Ages is the first and only museum related to the history of the city of Porto, and The Chocolate Story takes visitors through the incredible history of chocolate.
The Bridge Collection tells the story of the evolution of humanity through drinking vessels, while Porto Fashion & Fabric Museum pays homage to the industry in Portugal.
The design and exhibits for Planet Cork, Porto Region Across The Ages, and The Wine Experience were supplied by Scruffy Dog Group, a leading creative design company.
In addition, WOW includes shops, a gallery, event spaces and a wine school, all paying homage to the city of Porto.

Old cellars that were once home to thousands of barrels of Port wine have been restored, renovated and rebuilt to house WOW, which cost €105 million.
The central square offers panoramic views over the historic city and the Douro River. WOW hopes to reinforce Porto as the capital of Portuguese wine.
In more booze news, the Cité du Vin wine museum located in Bordeaux is expanding to Beijing. The $66.5m attraction will include a permanent exhibition and hotels.
Last year, the Mon Beaujolais experience, created by design firm Jora Vision, opened at Europe’s largest wine museum, Hameau Dubœuf in Beaujolais.
