TRON Lightcycle / Run has hit another major milestone, as the first piece of canopy is installed at Walt Disney World Resort‘s Magic Kingdom Park.
The high-tech, coaster-style attraction is scheduled to open at Magic Kingdom Park in 2021, in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
As shared by Zach Riddley, WDW site portfolio executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, the first piece of canopy has been installed in Tomorrowland.
The image, which you can check out below, shows the first of nearly 40 pieces that will create a dramatic ‘curved wave’ canopy, known as the Upload Conduit.
According to Disney Parks Blog, sections are strategically assembled before installation, including alignment of the steel, welding, grinding, painting and electrical work.
The huge canopy will be an awe-inspiring structure flowing organically over riders as they race beneath it on Lightcycles. It will serve as a digital bridge for the transition into The Grid.

As the Lightcycles fly past, dynamic stripes of lights will flow along the canopy, creating an impressive visual for visitors at Magic Kingdom.
Shanghai Disneyland features a similar attraction, called Tron Lightcycle Power Run, which debuted on opening day in 2016.
“I’ve had the chance to ride our sister attraction in Shanghai Disneyland and I can tell you we are in for an amazing new addition to the Walt Disney World coaster family,” said Riddley.
“I’m proud of all the work our Imagineers have put into this attraction so far, and am looking forward to seeing this beautiful piece of the digital frontier take shape on the horizon of Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom!”
Back in November 2019, TRON Lightcycle / Run reached a big construction milestone, with the final piece of the ride track installed at Walt Disney World.
