The Shanghai Astronomy Museum, also known as the Shanghai Planetarium, has completed its lighting tests and is on track to open in 2021.

According to China Daily, the Shanghai Astronomy Museum recently completed testing of the lighting systems for its main building and landscape.

The Shanghai Planetarium, which is located in Pudong New Area, will become the world’s largest planetarium when it opens.

The museum is made up of one main structure and other buildings. These include observatories with telescopes offering HD observation of the surface of the moon and planets.

Other features include a digital sky theatre, an education and research centre, an IMAX theatre, permanent and temporary exhibit galleries, a solar telescope, and an observatory.

It will also boast astronomy courses, observation activities, an astronomy enthusiast club, and personalised experiences.

In addition, the attraction will offer interactive activities powered by augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI).

The design of the building is inspired by astronomical principles in its three forms: the oculus, the inverted dome, and the sphere. This represents an astronomic tool being used to track the sun, moon, and stars.

Ennead Architects‘ partner Thomas Wong said: “In linking the new museum to both scientific purpose and to the celestial references of buildings throughout history, the exhibits and architecture will communicate more than scientific content: they will illuminate what it means to be human in a vast and largely unknown universe.”

More tourism projects are in the works for Lingang, which is now known as Nanhui New City – a planned city located in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, China.

Construction is also proceeding smoothly on Ice and Snow World, the world’s largest indoor ice and snow tourism project (via SHINE).
