Australia

Australia is the sixth-largest country in the world and comprises mainland Australia and the island of Tasmania. It has a population of over 25 million inhabitants – yet is home to more kangaroos than people. Whilst Australia is best known for its sandy beaches and metropolitan centres including Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra, the country is also home to the Australian Alps, which get more snow than Switzerland and boasts a range of ski resorts and national parks.

This visitor economy makes a significant contribution to the country, and visitor attractions include world-famous landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Key museums include The National Museum of Australia, in Canberra, the Australian Museum, in Sydney, the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, and WA Museum Boola Bardip, in Perth.

The Luna Parks, which are located in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, are a notable family of Australian amusement parks. This historic brand was built on the success of the first Luna Park on Coney Island, New York. The Sydney park opened in 1912 and was built in Art Deco style. The parks have evolved over the years while retaining their traditional charm, for example, Luna Park Sydney is home to Intamin’s Big Dipper, the fastest and tallest multi-launch coaster in Australia.

Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movie World, and Sea World are all on the Gold Coast and are considered to be some of the best theme parks on the planet.

With such a rich and diverse landscape, it may come as no surprise that Australia is also home to many zoos and aquariums, which include Zoos Victoria, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, and Cairns Aquarium.

While many of these attractions are location-specific, ground-breaking touring experiences have been developed by Australian organisations. Grande Experiences, for example, has developed exhibitions that have been by millions of visitors across the globe, such as Van Gogh Alive and Planet Shark.
