Orlando: Disney Government Spends Millions on Transportation Projects

News

“Fender benders with buses, traffic snarls at the Magic Kingdom parking entrance, and overall growth are fueling transportation projects throughout Walt Disney World, ” writes Sandra Pedicini in The Orlando Sentinel.

She outlines the way Reedy Creek, the Disney-controlled taxing district,  is tackling the growth in traffic – and traffic incidents –  and has already approved $350 million worth of projects to be completed by 2018. Measures include:

  • A 2-mile Western Way extension
  • A bridge taking hotel traffic over the Magic Kingdom’s toll plaza
  • A bypass providing better access to Floridian Way.

Furthermore, a vote will take place next month to approve the issuance of $80 million in bonds for a third Disney Springs parking garage.
