Mather & Co was involved in the development of this visitor attraction over eight years, working with Silverstone Heritage Limited and the British Racing Drivers’ Club to design a family attraction at the Silverstone circuit, home of British motor racing. The project vision was to bring the extensive heritage and engineering of Silverstone and British motor racing to life through the creation of a dynamic, interactive and educational visitor experience in an existing World War 2 hangar on site. The project was part of a £20 million overall budget, with £9.1 million coming from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We supported Silverstone Heritage Limited through two rounds of NLHF applications to a successful conclusion and delivery in October 2019.
National Paralympic Heritage Centre
Telling the story of the Paralympic Movement, the Heritage Centre showcases objects, documents and memorabilia including rare tickets, medals, sports kit, photographs and programmes that were previously held in storage and not available to the general public. It also incorporates interactive displays, videos and a handling collection, highlighting sports unique to the Paralympics such as goalball and boccia.
Our design has taken disability access to its maximum. Through consultation with our users and Paralympians we were able to offer a number of ways into the interpretation including BSL, subtitles, audio description, tactile maps, handrails and objects. 90% of users felt that this exhibition was the most accessible they had visited in the UK.
Quarry Bank Mill
Mather & Co was involved in this HLF-funded project over three years, working with the National Trust to redesign it as a complete site with a new welcome building and six individual venue experiences. Visitors can for the first time be able to tailor their visit and fully access all areas of the site.
The Royal Mint Experience
Mather & Co developed all of the interpretative content alongside The Royal Mint Museum and Client team, and designed the permanent visitor centre, the factory experience, entrance and retail space. Visitors can get fully immersed in the exhibition along the way, enter a 360-degree AV film placing them on the production process, throw coins into wishing wells and piggy banks, learn about the military and sporting medals that are produced and hear the stirring stories behind them, and go on an exclusive factory tour where they can see money being made before their very eyes.
The Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland
Mather & Co designed the new museum. We developed the initial masterplan into a fully detailed design over three floors. The exhibition area was remodelled and doubled in size to 3000m².
Downton Abbey: The Exhibition
Working with NBCUniversal and writer Julian Fellowes, Mather & Co helped to create the first immersive Downton Abbey experience. The exhibition has toured around the world, from New York to Singapore.
Mather & Co created a flexible design that allows visitors to get close to costumes and props from the show, as well as walk through recognisible sets like Mrs Patmore’s kitchen.
Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum
Mather & Co provided design consultancy for the award-winning Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum. The museum showcases objects from Wimbledon’s history, as well as providing interactive games and engaging films to immerse visitors into the Championships.
The Museum won a Gold Visit London Best Tourism Experience Award in 2007.
