The American Alliance of Museums has announced that its Annual Meeting will now take place virtually after the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) is pleased to announce the AAM Virtual Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo which will take place on 18 May and 1 – 4 June 2020. The theme of the event is Radical Reimagining.
The AAM Annual Meeting brings together professionals from all kinds of museums and cultural institutions, from art museums to zoos and botanical gardens. At this annual event, members of the museum community can connect, share ideas, learn new concepts and inspire each other. Now, the organisation is taking the event into the virtual space in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.
A new virtual experience
The AAM Virtual Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo will start on May 18 to celebrate International Museums Day. It will then continue on 1 – 4 June.
The theme of Radical Reimagining will encourage attendees to think about the future of the sector, how to overcome both the immediate threat but also how to plan for a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient museum community. The event will feature keynote speakers, inspiring programming and virtual networking opportunities.
Speaking on this year’s theme, AAM says, “While this sudden disruption on museum operations is likely to only be temporary for most museums, it is our collective responsibility to proactively assess our organizations and decide whether we want to rebuild what has always been or use this opportunity to build a better museum model.”
The MuseumExpo is also going online and will allow attendees to make connections and explore new products.
