Interstellar shoppers planning a trip to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will find everything they need to assemble their own droid, build their own lightsaber and design their own intergalactic wardrobe in the remote village outpost.

But you’ll need more than galactic credits to purchase merchandise in the shops, stalls and stands in the Black Spire Outpost village on the planet Batuu, the 14-acre Star Wars lands under construction in California and Florida. Fortunately the Galaxy’s Edge stores will accept cash and credit cards.

Looking for just the perfect tunic or robe to round out your Star Wars wardrobe? Need to pick up a few spare lightsaber parts salvaged from a fallen Jedi Knight temple? Always dreamed of building your own astromech droid from scavenged parts found in a space junkyard? Then you’ve come to the right place. Black Spire Outpost has everything the discerning outer rim shopper is looking for all in one convenient location.

The 9 locations for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge merchandise

Nine locations will sell merchandise and offer upcharge shopping experiences in the Black Spire village and marketplace. The exclusive merchandise was developed specifically for Galaxy’s Edge and will be only available in Disney theme parks.

“You’re not going to find the plastic toys here that you might find at a big box retailer,” said Walt Disney Imagineering portfolio creative executive Scott Trowbridge. “You’re going to find that everything on this planet feels like it was made by people on this planet for people on this planet.”

As with any Disney project, storytelling will play a key role in Galaxy’s Edge. Every shop will have a local Black Spire proprietor and an extensive backstory drawn from the Star Wars universe. Galaxy’s Edge visitors will find the bad guy First Order soldiers have set up a base in Black Spire Outpost while the good guy Resistance rebels are hiding out in a hidden camp just outside the village.

Let’s take a closer look at each of the merchandise shops in Black Spire Outpost.

Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers

Are you a padawan learner who is strong with the Force? Have you always dreamed of building your own lightsaber? Then you will want to stop by the space junkyard located near the main entrance of Black Spire Outpost. The scrapyard serves as a front operation for a covert lightsaber-building workshop. But don’t tell anybody about the secret shop. You wouldn’t want to attract the attention of the ever-watchful First Order, sworn enemy of the heroic Jedi Knight warriors.

Savi’s Workshop will be run by a scrapper who collects lightsaber pieces salvaged from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships throughout the galaxy. Savi’s great hope: A true hero with the ability to assemble the parts will one day walk into the shop. Well, that day is today and that hero is you.

Inside Savi’s shop, a group known as the Gatherers will lead a 20-minute build-your-own lightsaber experience in the Chamber of the Guardians.

The lightsaber building experience

“Our guests will get to meet the Gatherers who have dedicated their life to balancing The Force by sharing their knowledge of it,” said Imagineering creative producer Brian Loo. “In this experience, our guests will go on a guided tour with the Gatherers to build their lightsaber on their journey.”

Builders will get to choose their own lightsaber style, design their own hilt and select the color of the light-up blade.

The premium upcharge lightsaber-building experience will include special effects that add elements of mystery and wonder to a show that combines entertainment and shopping.

“It has some great moments of magic,” Imagineering executive creative director Chris Beatty said. “The finale is super, super cool. In the reveal at the end you’ll be visited by an old friend as part of the experience.”

Droid Depot

Droid fanatics won’t have to look very hard to find their nirvana in Black Spire Outpost. A row of full-size audio-animatronic astromechs will be parked in front of a droid-building shop near the Frontierland entrance to Galaxy’s Edge.

“It’s kind of reminiscent of the droids in ‘Episode IV’ outside the sandcrawler that were for sale,” Beatty said during a tour of the land. “These will look like droids that are for sale. You can come up and get your picture with them.”

Have an idea for R2-unit that you’ve always wanted to build? Got a crazy color scheme in mind for a rolling BB-unit? Know just the personality you’re looking for in a droid? Droid Depot is the just the place for all your droid-building needs.

Build your own droids

Tinkerers who have always wanted to work on their own R2-D2 just like Luke Skywalker will be able to build their own droids in the shop. Pick your own parts off a moving conveyor belt and put the pieces together at assembly stations any way you want. It’s completely up to you. Changing your droid’s personality is as simple as swapping out a sound chip. The final steps: Power up your droid and run a diagnostic check.

When you’re done, your remote-controlled mini-droid will be able to communicate with full-sized units found throughout Black Spire Outpost.

The shop’s walls and ceiling will be filled with animated show elements and droid props. There will be Imperial droids, medical droids and protocol droids. BB-8 will be on an elevated platform. R2-D2 will be hanging out near the build station. Everywhere you look you will see droids in various states of disrepair. Overhead, droid parts will continuously move along a dry cleaner-like conveyor system.

Every droid-building experience will be different

“If you’re a fan of Star Wars droids, there’s a droid from almost every one of the franchise films,” Beatty said. “It’s going to be just chock full of fun characters that you know and love.”

Just like every builder, every droid-building experience will be different.

“We expect some people to come in and they’re like, ‘I know exactly what I want my droid to look like,’” Beatty said. “They’re going to pick their parts and go over and build. Be really great at building it, bring it to life and walk out.”

But you can take as long as you want to build your droid. There’s no time limit. Personalize your droid any way you want. It’s entirely up to you.

“We’ll have other guests that may come in and go, ‘You know what I really want? I want to play a little bit. Change the head a couple of different times. Really create something crazy and wild,’” Beatty said.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

Whatever you do, don’t trust Dok-Ondar. He’s a very dangerous guy. And no matter what he tells you, he’ll never give you a break on the price of anything in his black market shop.

The hammerhead alien with bulging eyes and two mouths in his curved neck runs Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. The audio-animatronic shopkeeper will barter with customers. But don’t get your hopes up.

“I’ve never known him to give a deal,” Beatty said.

The Den of Antiquities, a play on den of iniquities, will sell Jedi and Sith artifacts, pre-built legacy lightsabers and one-of-a-kind treasures from different eras of the Star Wars galaxy.

Every item in Dok’s Den has a story, with some stories more dangerous than others. The store will be filled with taxidermied extraterrestrials, winged space creatures and tentacled sea aliens. The upper level of the shadowy shop will be stuffed with souvenir spoils collected by Dok from throughout the Star Wars galaxy. On the lower level, shoppers can peruse the shop’s illegal interstellar goods under the watchful eye of the Ithorian shopkeeper.

“He has such a large collection that everyone actually knows him,” Loo said. “He no longer has to travel because all his clients come to him instead.”

The Creature Stall’s shelves and cages will also be filled with animatronic aliens and animated scenes.

“Some of them have little special effects that have leaves that move and eyes that look down upon you,” Beatty said. “If you look up, you see creatures in the cages.”

An animatronic Loth Cat will be napping on a little bed in the shop. Nearby, a spiny Worrt with bulbous eyes will be flicking its tongue inside a glass case.

“He sits in here and he’s eating fireflies that are flying around his cage,” Beatty said. “His stomach is breathing, so he’s alive.”

Toydarian Toymaker

Ever wanted to start your own cantina band just like Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes? Do you play a mean Kloo horn or Fanfar clarinet? Can’t get enough of that infectious Benny Goodman-esque sound heard in the Mos Eisley cantina? Now you can play the classic cantina tunes with your own Star Wars musical instruments.

Downplaying the packaging and corporate logos

Just like a toy shop on Earth, the whimsical and jumbled Toydarian Toymaker will sell artisanal playthings for Black Spire children. Toy models of Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters and landspeeders will fill the shop. The toy store will sell musical instruments just like the ones played by the Mos Eisley cantina band during the original “Star Wars” movie. The merchandise sold in Toydarian Toymaker and throughout Galaxy’s Edge will appear to made by local Black Spire vendors. To better blend in with the Star Wars surroundings, shops will downplay packaging and corporate logos on the merchandise.
