Great Wolf Resorts will build a $200 million, 44-acre lodge and waterpark next to the Hollywood Casino Perryville in Maryland. It is set to open by summer 2022.
The Great Wolf project will create 600 full- and part-time jobs to Cecil. The property will have 500 hotel rooms, a 1,000-person conference center, restaurants and entertainment venues. There will also be the waterparks and play areas.
Chris Moyer, director of the county’s Office of Economic Development, said: “It will be a significant anchor for the county and it puts us on the map as far as cementing what a great tourist destination the county is.
“We expect major activity whether it’s more restaurant pad sites, other tourism-based assets like a TopGolf, movie theater, office space or apartments to come and we anticipate the rest of the area being built-out over the next three years.”
Cecil County and the Town of Perryville will offer a reduction in the county and local hotel taxes to bring Great Wolf to Perryville. The county will also offer a personal property tax credit and a portion of casino revenues.
Cecil County Executive Alan McCarthy said: “We are excited that these enterprise zone expansions have been granted. This will spur further job growth and investment in Perryville and North East in the near future.”
Great Wolf Resorts first opened in 1977.
Great Wolf Resorts relocated to Chicago last year and opened new properties this year. Most recently, they expressed interest in opening a Great Wolf Lodge park in southern Orange County, New York.
