Associate Director Beverly Morgan-Welch anticipated a lot of visitors when the National Museum of African American History and Culture opened in September. What has surprised her has been the “dwell time”, that is how long the average visitor remains in the museum once they have entered.
“The normal dwell time for most museums is an hour 45 minutes to two hours. Our dwell time can go to six. It’s the best, most difficult problem I’ve ever faced in a museum.” said Morgan-Welch.
