The Punjab government is reportedly offering its support to proposals for a Disney-style theme park in Lahore.
Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sunbal told a delegation from LEEAD Consulting that the government is making serious efforts to develop the park and would offer its full support and cooperation.
The Greek construction firm has demanded a duty and tax-free regime from the Punjab government for its $621 million investment.
The provincial government has no power to offer such waivers to foreign investment groups, but has sought help from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Final approval for the project is in the hands of the Board of Investment (BoI) in Islamabad.
If successful, the park will occupy 600 acres and will be executed on a build, own and operate (BOO) model. The government will initially provide the land for 20 years.
The multimillion dollar project will reportedly feature amusement attractions, hotels and business centres and offer new job opportunities to thousands of local people. Among the attractions will be an aquarium as well as state-of-the-art theme park rides, including a rollercoaster.
