Sea Life Malaysia, a new aquarium attraction at Legoland Malaysia Resort, is scheduled to open in late 2018.
The $12.7 million Sea Life aquarium will span 2,123 square metres with 25 exhibition tanks and 11 marine habitats. It has been developed at a cost of $12.7 million. The habitats include fresh water, coast, coral reefs and sea cave. It will be located next to Legoland Theme Park, Legoland Water Park and Legoland Hotel.
The Sea Life experience will focus on taking visitors on a voyage to the depths of the oceans with exhibits designed with children in mind. Visitors can learn about some of the sea’s most famous and popular creatures such as seahorses, rays, sharks and jellies. Behind-the-scenes tours will provide insight into animal healthcare and food preparation for sea creatures.
It will also include a Malaysia rainforest zone showcasing many of the creatures from the local ecosystem.
A ground-breaking ceremony for Sea Life Malaysia was held yesterday. At the event, Amir Azizan, Group CEO of Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd, told The Malay Mail: “At Legoland, what is important is continuous investment that can attract the interest of visitors, be it local or foreign. Up to now, we are still getting visitors from both.”
The ceremony was officiated by Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee Chairman, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong. He believes the development shows that investors have confidence in the state’s tourism sector.
“Johor has many theme parks to meet the interest of tourists, be it local or foreign, and we want Johor to become a tourist holiday destination during the holiday seasons,” he told the Malay Mail.
“Based on a report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, in 2016, Johor was the top destination in terms of local tourists with 7.4 million visitors, and was in third place in terms of visits by foreign tourists involving 2.6 million visitors.”
