President and CEO Dr. Frederic Bertley leads COSI, the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
A Harvard-trained immunologist, Dr. Frederic Bertley is a leader with vision, energy, and an unstoppable enthusiasm for science.
Dr. Bertley has had a huge impact on COSI and is in many ways redefining what a science center is and can be to a community. It was named as USA Today’s number one science museum in 2020 and by positioning COSI as a catalyst for change, Dr. Bertley contributes to Central Ohio’s identity as a “smart” region poised for success and growth.
Under Dr. Bertley’s leadership, COSI created the 2019 COSI Science Festival, the biggest science event in Ohio. Over a hundred events during the first three days of the festival ended with a Big Science Celebration featuring more than 100 exhibitors, including NASA.
Coronavirus didn’t stop the 2020 COSI Science Festival: Dr. Bertley spurred the Team to reinvent the event as a digital experience. The result was an even bigger audience than 2019, with 39 online events generating 118,990 total views.
Building on the success of the digital Science Festival, Dr. Bertley also led the creation of COSI Connects, a website featuring daily science content that has now evolved into free science kits being distributed to families in need across Columbus.
