AAM launches program for #AAM2021 virtual annual meeting

The American Alliance of Museums reveals the full schedule for this year’s Virtual Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo

The American Alliance of Museums has announced the release of its 2021 Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo program. During the virtual event, which kicks off on 24 May for a single day and then continues from 7 – 11 June, there will be over 80 concurrent sessions on a huge range of relevant topics.

To ease of access, all session will also be recorded, so attendees can watch live or at a time which suits them. To full program can be found here.

The Second City headline opening event

This year’s opening event will be headlined by renowned Chicago comedy group, The Second City. During the show on 7 June, the cast will be taking suggestions from attendees to create a unique interactive performance.

The Second City dates back to 1959 and boasts alumni like Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Joan Rivers, Alan Arkin, and more.

Keynotes & Elevate Stage panels

#AAM21 will feature insightful keynotes from Priya Parker, Bryan Stevenson and Sandra Cisneros. In addition, attendees can also check out three Elevate Stage panels.

Firstly, on 24 May a panel including Arthur Affleck, Executive Vice President, American Alliance of Museums and Patrick Salazar, Founder & Executive Director, Latinos LEAD will lead a session entitled “Increasing Racial and Ethnic Diversity on Museum Boards.”

This will be followed by “More Than Words: Solidarity Statements and Action” on 8 June, lead by panellists Diana Abouali, Director, Arab American National Museum; Cinnamon Catlin-Legutko, Director, Illinois State Museum; Chris Newell, Executive Director & Senior Partner to Wabanaki Nations, Abbe Museum; and Linda Norris, Senior Specialist, Methodology and Practice, International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.

The third Elevate Stage panel, on 9 June, is called “Resilient, Together: Philanthropy & Museums” and will be hosted by panellists Sandra Aponte, Manager of Community Impact, The Chicago Community Trust; Rocio Aranda-Alvarado, Program Officer, Creativity and Free Expression, The Ford Foundation; Geoffrey Banks, Senior Program Officer, McArthur Foundation; Donald Cooke, Senior Vice President of Philanthropy, McCormick Foundation; Charles Katzenmeyer, Vice President, Institutional Advancement, Field Museum; and Carrie Morgridge, Co-founder, Morgridge Family Foundation.
