Tour managers can upsell a range of additional experiences following a needed technology upgrade

Convious, a leading eCommerce platform for the leisure industry, has upgraded ticketing for a leading studio tour attraction in Germany.

To fulfil the rising demand for online ticket sales for its studio tours and attraction experiences, Bavaria Filmstadt, the second-largest movie studio in the country, transitioned its eCommerce and ticketing operations to Convious.

Every year, Bavaria Filmstadt welcomes 200,000 visitors and offers guided tours of movie sets. The studio also offers supplemental entertainment choices, such as a 4D motion simulator and a HOLOGATE Arena for virtual reality experiences. The 4D theatre and VR experience are reserved as alternate ticket options for each 90-minute trip.

To keep up with online demand, the operations team had to enhance its ticketing platform from an antiquated system to a comprehensive attractions management and e-commerce solution. Due to the intricacy of attraction ticketing, this required integration with an existing POS technology to expand capabilities.

Converting more upsells

The outgoing POS product was unable to accommodate Bavaria Filmstadt’s need to manage second-gate experience bookings and time selections within the same sales cycle.

The new system with its custom API was developed by the Convious team of software engineers, who also made sure that the two platforms were synchronised in real-time, with automated emailing, financial reporting, and the creation of online tickets coming from the Convious platform.

By integrating the car park reservation system and increasing the visibility of second gate experiences, the Convious functionality has enhanced upsell opportunities and discussion rates.

“The perfect platform”

Head of Bavaria Filmstadt at Bavaria Film Group, Stefan Bryxi comments:

“We were one of the first to implement online bookings in Germany over a decade ago with a solution that we created ourselves. Since then, online bookings have risen from 10% in 2010 to about 70% in 2022, so we need a professional solution.

“Convious has proved to be the perfect platform. It has streamlined the arrival experience for guests as they can now scan their own tickets and go straight in. We can keep track virtually of arrivals and begin the tour when the whole group has arrived.

“The Convious team have been fantastic to work with and provided us with a bespoke solution to incorporate our existing POS. They have been really responsive to every request, anticipated our needs and are always quick to respond, often realising and solving challenges before we have even asked. We don not feel like a client – we feel like a partner.”

Convious is currently exhibiting at the 27th Museum Connections event in Paris, showcasing the firm’s fully integrated end-to-end sales and marketing platform.
