The Science Museum has announced the appointment of Jessica Bradford to the role of head of collections and principal curator.

Bradford currently serves as keeper of collections engagement at the Science Museum. Starting in November, she replaces Dr Tilly Blyth.

“The opportunity to lead our talented curatorial team as we share the astonishing stories embedded in our collection is a life’s dream realised. I can’t wait to get started,” Bradford said.

During nearly 12 years with the Science Museum Group, she has worked across collections, learning and exhibitions. In her current role, she has brought the museum’s collection to life for a growing audience.

She has also collaborated with the digital team to enhance access to the museum’s online offerings such as blogs, articles, video and audio.

Dr Julia Knights, deputy director at the Science Museum, said Bradford will be “a strong part of shaping our new exhibitions and galleries in the years ahead”.

Bradford was also co-head of public engagement and programmes at the History of Science Museum at the University of Oxford in 2021 and lead curator of TEDxLondon between 2015 and 2017.

Meanwhile, Blyth is moving to a new position as professor and head of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. She will continue to serve as a senior research associate at the Science Museum.

“As the leading place to study and research museums and galleries in the UK, I am delighted to be joining the school at such an important time,” Blyth said.

“Museums are going through a transformation as they develop more sustainable and inclusive practice, whilst building their digital skills,” she added.

“I wanted to bring some of the pioneering practice at the Science Museum Group to the rest of the sector.”
