A walk-through visitor experience, 007 Elements, is sited 3,040 meters on the Gaislachkogl. This also happens to be one of the iconic film locations in the Bond film Spectre. 007 Elements is a partnership between EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) and Bergbahnen Sölden.

An immersive, interactive and educational experience, 007 Elements places visitors inside the world of James Bond. It also gives them a revealing look at how that world has been brought to life.

The project is a collaboration between Creative Director Neal Callow (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre), Optimist Inc. Head of Design Tino Schaedler and his team with Tyrolean architect Johann Obermoser. In addition, Kraftwerk Living Technologies was behind the technology in seven of the attraction’s nine rooms. Their work involved the technical design, installation and programming of the experience.

Much like a Bond villain’s secret lair, 007 Elements has a unique and dramatic site. Built into the Gaislachkogl mountain, it extends over two floors, totaling 1,300 m2. A guest’s visit takes them through a series of galleries. Although the the focus is on Spectre, the other 23 films in the James Bond franchise are featured. Furthermore, care was taken to use flexible technology throughout. The measn the content can be easily updated when required.

Werner Spiegel is Director of Project Implementation and Service at Kraftwerk. He says, “By using the right technology, we can bring content, stories and scenes to life and intensify the audiences’ experience. With 007 Elements, the entire team has managed to create a spectacular, immersive spatial experience. It feels like a walk-in movie and is an absolute highlight for Austria. A James Bond installation, in Austria – we were very excited to work on this project!”

The site of the installation posed it own challenges. Working at 3,040 meters above sea level pushed both  the team and the technology to its limits. The building itself sits on permafrost, so it is not heated. As a result the hardware was exposed to extremely cold temperatures, meaning special air conditioning housings were developed. These therefore guaranteed the functioning of the hardware even with only a few degrees Celsius above zero.

Werner Spiegel says, “The entire team on site – from the visionary client and the creative leads to the installation team – did a great job despite challenging conditions so that this project could be completed in time for the summer season.”
