The American Alliance of Museums has announced the programme for its Virtual Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo, which kicks off on Mon 18 May.
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) is pleased to announce the schedule for its virtual conference, which begins on 18 May, coinciding with International Museums Day, and then continues on 1 – 4 June.
May session
The virtual conference starts on 18 May at 9.45 am CT with two keynote speakers, Dr Jonnetta B. Cole and Anthony Salcito. Cole is the President and National Chair of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. and is also Special Counsel on Strategic Initiatives for the Baltimore Museum of Art. Salcito is Interim Vice President Public Sector & Government, and Vice President Education for Microsoft.
The programme for the day, supported by Microsoft, features three sessions. Trendswatch: A Glimpse of the (Post-Pandemic) Future takes place from 12 – 1 pm CT and explores how COVID-19 might change the museum sector. This is followed by Complex Challenges, Unconventional Solutions: Finding Opportunity in Crisis from 1.15 – 2.15 pm CT, looking at the pandemic as a way to shape a different future.
Finally, COVID-19 and Museums: A Briefing with Johns Hopkins Experts is scheduled for 2.30 – 3.30 pm CT. This features an in-depth look at the current situation.
June Sessions
The annual meeting continues on 1 – 4 June with more keynote speakers and a variety of interesting discussions. Marina Gorbis, Executive Director, Institute for the Future, Christy Coleman, Executive Director, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and Lonnie G. Bunch III, 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian, will all be speaking on 1 – 2 June.
A huge range of topics will be covered, from audience engagement and accessibility to experience design and sustainability. Full details can be found here.
The theme of the event is Radical Reimagining and it also incorporates four different tracks within this, allowing the museum community to reinspire, rebuild, reengage and reconnect.
