The American Alliance of Museums is preparing for Museums Advocacy Day 2021, in order to help museums get their voices heard.
The American Alliance of Museums is pleased to announce that registration is now open for Museums Advocacy Day 2021. After the 117th session of Congress convenes in January, AAM will be joining forces with museum supporters and professionals to make their voices heard with legislators.
Museums Advocacy Day 2021 will be a virtual event, taking place from 22 – 23 February. The event has been running for over ten years and provides training and support for those meeting with members of Congress and their staff to advocate on behalf of the museum sector.
With next year’s event taking place virtually, it will be easier than ever people to get involved from across the country.

On Monday 22 February, the programme will take place online. Then, on Tuesday 23 February, congressional meetings to be held virtually will be scheduled with Capitol Hill offices. This means that lawmakers, staff, and advocates will be able to participate by video or phone.
“Together as a field, we’ve defeated several threats to eliminate federal agencies supporting museums,” says an AAM statement on its website. “This year, following the recent elections and with so many museums still in dire situations across the country, we must keep making our case to Congress.
“Legislators do not know how their decisions affect museums if they don’t hear directly from you—the museums and people they represent. The resources and insights you’ll gain as a participant will help sustain your museum’s future and the future of the field.”
