AmazeVR, a premium virtual reality (VR) entertainment platform, has launched its first location-based VR experience with an installation at Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. The company hopes to expand its immersive LBE offering.

AmazeVR launched in May 2019 with backing from LG Electronics, a South Korean electronics company headquartered in Seoul.

AmazeVR has now obtained an additional $2.5 million commitment to expand its total funding to approximately $9 million (via TechCrunch).

The companyā€™s entertainment hub is located at Incheonā€™s airtrain station, on the way to Terminal 1. The attraction has 11,000 square feet of space and features meditation areas and relaxation-focused VR videos.

In addition, it boasts a stage for immersive performances from popular musicians, as well as an indoor playground for children.

ā€œWe have seen the VR market is still fairly nascent and weā€™re moving forward with location-based entertainment,ā€ said Earnest Lee, chief content officer at AmazeVR.

ā€œThis is a start to get into the location-based industry.ā€

AmazeVR teamed up with Partners Investment and YG Investment, the financing arm of YG Entertainment, on the airport project.

YG Entertainment manages Korean pop stars and owns a record label, talent agency and production company, as well as an events management and concert production company.

ā€œAs leaders in the online VR consumer market, one of our key objectives is to broaden our distribution and expand capabilities towards immersive experiences offline as well,ā€ said Steve Lee, CEO of AmazeVR.

ā€œThrough this location-based hub at Incheon International Airport, we can expose an untapped market not just to the great content that AmazeVR produces, but also to the wonders of VR in general.

ā€œOur investors recognize this and have deep connections within the music and entertainment industries, which will help us develop unique VR experiences with even more incredible content that will extend VR adoption globally.ā€

Leading the way in airport attractions is Jewel Changi Airport, an entertainment destination with shops, restaurants, play attractions, accommodation, and the worldā€™s biggest waterfall.

At Vienna International Airport, Christieā€™s laser projectors are providing a panoramic cockpit view at a multimedia visitor experience, while Emaar is developing a business and tourism complex in the aero-economic area of Beijing Daxing International Airport.
