American Wave Machines provides PerfectSwell technology for new surfing facility in Shizunami

American Wave Machines, a leading wave pool, surf park and wave technology company, has announced a project with Surf Stadium Japan, to create a PerfectSwell world-class surfing facility in Shizunami.

American Wave Machines is pleased to announce that Surf Stadium Japan (SSJ) is working on a word-class surfing facility in Shizunami, which will feature the company’s PerfectSwell technology. SSJ is creating an arena-like atmosphere at the new attraction, where spectators will feel up close and personal with the action. It is expected to open in June 2020.

The facility is located close to Makinohara in Shizuoka Prefecture, which will host training facilities for the US surfing teams, as well as teams from other countries.

PerfectSwell technology

PerfectSwell by American Wave Machines is the world’s leading performance wave pool. By using this technology, the new facility by SSJ will be able to host competitive training, as well as providing support for the fast-growing surf community in the region. PerfectSwell provides a range of different wave types, from beginner to pro.

“This project is the realization of a vision 4 years in the making. Our goal has always been to contribute to the deep and vibrant surf culture in Makinohara,” says Tooshihiko Adachi, CEO of SSJ. “Surf Stadium Japan will expand the surfing community by offering recreational surf and at the same time contribute to athlete development.”

“We are well aware of the level of effort to have surfing approved for the 2020 Olympics,” says Bruce McFarland, CEO of American Wave Machines. “Hats off to the International Surfing Association for this extraordinary accomplishment. Surfing will be on the world stage in Japan. AWM is extremely honoured to work with the visionaries at Surf Stadium Japan and participate in the growth of the local and global surf community.”
