EyeClick, specialists in creating inventive products that transform spaces into magical experiences, have installed their BEAM System at the Anderson Center for Autism in Staatsburg, New York.
The BEAM system uses sounds and actions in a game format to encourage children from two years of age to run, jump and play with their whole bodies.
The Anderson Center for Autism is a not-for-profit organization that specializes in individualized care and services for children and adults on the spectrum. BEAM will be used to increase physical activity among the center’s children.
Commenting on the reaction of the students to the BEAM system during the initial trial period, Behavior Analyst, Amanda Coons MS, BCBA, said, “It was interesting to watch how BEAM became a tool that encouraged students to communicate and socialize with their peers. The BEAM appeared to aid students in engaging in seemingly natural ways with their peers and with the device.”
Currently used in facility’s Recreation Center, BEAM will be incorporated in the center’s curriculum as therapists become more familiar with the device.
Coons says, “I look forward to sharing this tool with other service providers at Anderson in hopes that they too can incorporate it within their programs.”
