As the coronavirus pandemic continues, the Aquarium of the Pacific is offering webcams, online exhibits, and guest speaker videos, as well as family-friendly activities and educational content as people practice social distancing.
Guests can visit the aquarium’s exhibits virtually via webcams that stream live feeds from inside exhibits, featuring penguins, sharks and sea jellies.
The ‘Guest Speaker Series’ invites people to enjoy lectures at the aquarium with scientists, artists, journalists and staff members.
Lectures cover topics such as ocean research and conservation and a full archive dating back to 2010 is available on the aquarium’s website.
In addition, people can check out the attraction’s YouTube channel, which boasts hundreds of animal videos and ‘Pacific Pals’ music videos.
Aquarium offering webcams, lectures and videos
Online exhibits will educate people about whales and let them explore the aquarium, its inhabitants, and its current and past projects through interactive story maps.
The Online Learning Center features animal facts, profiles of the aquarium’s animals and more educational information.
The aquarium’s Seafood for the Future programme has also created a web series called ‘Ocean to Table: Stories of Food, Farming, and Conservation’.
This explores different types of seafood and includes cooking tips and recipes as well as educational shorts on the environmental benefits of responsible seafood farming.
Educational programmes for children on offer
Various educational programmes are also on offer, including:
- Aquarium Webcam Resource Kits – fun videos, worksheets, and additional resources.
- Career Connections – videos introducing students to STEM professionals and possible career options.
- Sustainability Series – video series on the challenges facing food and water resources and on finding sustainable solutions.
The Aquarium of the Pacific recently said that it will host performing arts productions in the state-of-the-art Honda Pacific Visions Theater.
The attraction is reinventing the concept of a traditional aquarium in its Pacific Visions expansion, which features animals, multi-sensory art and films, and digital games.
